Porsche PIWIS Tester Data Recovery – faulty IDE drive replaced with mSATA SSD
This Porsche PIWIS Tester came in because it no longer booted and stayed stuck on a dark screen.
The cause turned out to be the internal hard drive: an original 2.5 inch IDE drive, Western Digital Scorpio WD400VE-75HDT1, 40 GB, from 2005. The drive was faulty, so the system could no longer load.
We fully recovered the data from the drive, including the operating system and the PIWIS software. We then restored everything to a LITE-ON 128 GB mSATA SSD, mounted on an mSATA to 44-pin IDE converter. It connects directly to the original IDE cable and fits in the existing drive bracket.
No reinstallation or new configuration was needed. The tester boots normally again and all functions work as before. The hardware of this PIWIS Tester is well aged, but still strong and reliable. With just new storage, the device works again as if time has stood still. A fine example of solid engineering that, with the right repair, can keep going for years.
