iPhone 15 Pro Max Apple Pay issue – solution (NFC chip repair)

An iPhone 15 Pro Max came into our workshop with an Apple Pay problem: NFC payments no longer worked and Apple Pay could not be set up.

To confirm the fault, we first ran the official Apple Diagnostics using the Mobile Resource Inspector. The result was clear: all components such as Battery Condition, Bluetooth, Camera and Cellular Baseband passed, but Apple Pay showed a red error (see photos). This confirmed that the problem was hardware-related and not a software issue.

Inspection of the logic board revealed that the NFC chip (NXP SN220V) was burned. We replaced the defective NFC chip with a new one and reprogrammed it. Immediately after the repair, Apple Pay still showed an error, but after running Apple Diagnostics again the NFC chip was recognised by the system and Apple Pay worked normally again.
