iPod Classic 2nd Generation A1019 2002 – Data Recovery

Recently, an iPod Classic 2nd generation came in with a remarkable story. The owner had connected the device to an old MacBook via a FireWire connection. Immediately after establishing that connection, the drive was wiped and all data was gone.

A challenging job, since modern workstations no longer come equipped with a FireWire port. To gain access to this iPod, we developed our own custom interface that allowed us to bridge the iPod's FireWire connection to a USB-C port.

Once the connection was established, we successfully linked the iPod's HDD to our data recovery software. During the analysis, the drive turned out to contain multiple damaged sectors. We repaired each of these one by one, after which we were able to fully recover and back up the deleted data.

This has been one of the most interesting data recovery projects we have ever carried out. It shows that even with outdated equipment and seemingly lost data, there are often still possibilities — provided you have the right knowledge, tools, and creativity.

Do you have a similar case or do you think your data is lost? Feel free to get in touch with us. At Nodefix, our motto is: what others can't fix, we can.
